5 out of 5 stars Full Of Action And Suspense   March 25, 2008

I thought the movie was a good ending for the trilogy. It was entertaining and of course the cast is great, i mean who doesn't love Johnny Depp?! There was a lot of more action scenes and they were very good. It also had a strong emotional ending and it was all really well done in my opinion. A great adventure!

1 out of 5 stars Am i the only one that hated this piece of crap ? !!!!!   February 19, 2008
The Tree of Woes (Perdition)

I remember when i was a little kid (in the stone age) before there was video, dvd, computers amongst the general public, i used to go to the saturday matinee at the local theatre.

My favorite movies were period pieces like Rob Roy, the sword and sandal epics like Hercules, and pirate movies like Crimson Pirate, and most of all, Treasure Island with Robert Newton as Long John Silver. As long as i live i will never forget how i got the crap scared out of me when that dirty old pirate named Black Dog walked up to the inn and brought a piece of parchment with the dreaded black spot.

A day after i suffered through this latest Johnny Depp joke, i couldnt even remember what the story was about. I do remember it was too long, too gawdy in costumes, silly characters, and just too much computer generated imagery. Dead people walking around, pirates with monster heads, abuse of women, the usual explosions, ships rising out of the water, on and on and on. But what else could you expect from a movie based on a carnival ride?

I thought the first movie was cute, Johnny doing his Keith Richard imitation, a little excitement, and a half decent story. But once again, as with many of the "children and family" movies of today - harry potter, golden compass, etc etc. we see dark forces, evil, monsters, and generally just a bunch of satanic garbage with PG13 ratings. I think Walt Disney (and i mean no disrespect) would turn over in his grave if he saw some of the absolute crap the Disney money machine is churning out. It has only happened since the new folks took over Disney after Walt Disney passed away many years ago. I can only imagine what this trash is doing to the little sponge minds of today's youth.

This definitely is not a kid's movie. It is much darker than the first and best of the 3 in the series. This movie contains scenes of multiple hangings, murder by gunshot to the head, the walking dead, scary monsters, and questionable treatment of women, bordering on abuse.

Why cannot Johnny Depp, a gifted young actor, (who has turned out some amazing performances in so many different kinds of movies) get involved with a remake of Treasure Island? That is a real pirate movie. What the hell is wrong with people who go and pay to view this Caribbean crap, take their little babes, and think it is such a wonderful family experience. I thought it was excessive, silly, too long, boring, and had no merit whatsoever. It was like a big, dumb, video game with no story. Is that what we now call family entertainment?

I dont know what happened but over the last 15 years, what used to be rated as Restricted due to violence has now been rated PG13 as long as no course language is present. God forbid if my children hear course language but its okay for them to absorb this awful presentation of life in the world of pirates complete with walking dead and awful characters that could only exist in some crackhead's nightmare.

I think someone out there now is only interested in creating steaming turds like this which can be played to the 10 to 70 crowd all at the same time. Bringin' in the money.....the new mantra.

1 out of 5 stars An over-the-top, poorly written, sad effort   February 4, 2008

A poor story (script), far far too long, over-the-top special effects that rival Star Trek I for killing what material was there and a 'happy ending' that came AFTER the credits! Anyone left in the theatre or still playing the dvd long enough to even see this scene?? What were they thinking?

The delicous villain Lord Beckett completely changes character at the end - did they run out of money to finish the film and needed to wrap it up in a hurry? And when did this entertaining, light hearted pirate movie a la Errol Flynn become a long and boring Soap Opera with too many special effects? They needed a writers strike to save this project!

There were shades in Pirates 2 that hinted that the third would be this dark. But what a disappointing end to the trilogy. Once again, Hollywood over does it for the final installment. Save your money, and watch the first one over and over - it at least, had the formula right and didn't take itself too seriously. Whoever wrote this drivel, completely lost sight of what the 'magic' was. For Shame.

5 out of 5 stars The best Pirates of the Caribbean movie!! It rocks!!   January 7, 2008

Pirates of the Caribbean 3- At World's End is an amazing film. It's the best of the series. Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley and Geoffery Rush lead the star-studded cast. The only flaws in the film is Elizabeth becoming the Pirate King and captain of a ship. Pirates are supposed to men- not women. I can understand that Elizabeth is Orlando's bloom love interest in the movie- but that's as far as it should go. The multiple Jack Sparrows in the desert was too much Depp. I didn't need to see multiple Depps. Overall, it was an amzing film- but it could have cut the Davey Jones locker scene to eliminate the multiple Sparrows.

Amazing film- but stupid in places.

3 out of 5 stars We meet new friends and old enemies   January 5, 2008

It is time for the East India Trading Company, vigorously trying to stamp out piracy. The nine pirate leaders must unite or disappear. Unfortunately one pirate leader Captain Sparrow, dead and gone, must be retrieved from Davy Jones' Locker.

A positive character that had a lot of potential is Naomie Harris as Calypso, the sea goddess. She get a big buildup and just as she is about to strike she becomes crabby.

This film has too many plots and sub plots. Too many characters and too many sub characters. Too much graphics and too many Johnny Depp's.

Why can't we get on with the story?
And if this is a trilogy then why all the loose ends that never get tied?
