A smaller, more subtle thrillerOctober 31, 2008 G_R_E_G 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
For six year X-philes have eagerly awaited the return of Mulder and Scully, but did it pay off? I think so.
The movie begins six year after the conclusion of the series. Scully is working as a doctor and Mulder is still completely reclusive and wanted by the FBI. The two of them are in a romantic relationship and are living together. They are contacted by the FBI to help solve the murders of several FBI agents. They are helped by Father Joe, priest who claims to have a telepathic connection with the victims. Everyone has mixted feelings about Faher Joe because he is a convicted pedophile. That is pretty much the only supernatural element.
The X-files: I Want to Believe isn't the gigantic, epic alien movie that fans might have expected. It feels like a longer version of a really good episode of the series from the early years. If you go in expecting that then you should enjoy it.
Mulder and Scully are back!October 30, 2008 Jorhan Walsh 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I waited a full decade for The X-Files' second movie! My initial reaction in the theatre was not good... However I did enjoy it a lot more the second time around. It's good to have Mulder and Scully back! You'll notice right away that I Want To Believe looks more like it was shot for television than the big screen (Unlike Fight The Future). I guess I'm just disappointed because it could have been so much more than it was. I'd compare it to an okay episode, only twice as long. The part that sold me the second time I saw it was the ending... The actual ending (Wait till after the credits roll). The good news is I Want To Believe is getting some respect on DVD -- It's packed with bonus content!
The 3 disc DVD edition includes...
-- Includes both the Theatrical Version and Unrated Extended Cut of the film -- Audio commentary by Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz -- Body Parts: Special Make-up Effects featurette -- Chris Carter: Statements on Green Production featurette -- Deleted Scenes -- Gag Reel -- Music Slideshow - "Dying 2 Live" by Xzibit -- Theatrical Trailers -- Still Galleries -- Collectibles -- Storyboards -- Concept Art -- Unit Photography -- Trust No One: Can The X-Files Remain A Secret? feature-length documentary -- Part 1 - "You Can Go Home Again" -- Part 2 - "Misinformation" -- Part 3 - "Don't Give Up" -- Digital Copy of the film for portable media players
There's even more content on the Blu-Ray release!
Here's hoping this DVD does well ... I NEED to see a third movie so the invasion can finally be resolved -- One way or another (The set date was 2012!).
