Amazon.com Essential Video The long-defunct, Southern California band regrouped for an album, an expensive tour (expensive for ticket buyers, that is), and this televised special, which features the Eagles in performance. Laid-back but sharp and even stirring during a longish acoustic set, the guys quickly get past the nostalgia element and sound truly viable. They even make it look easy: the sight of Joe Walsh wearing glasses and sitting in almost perfect repose as he effortlessly colors old hits "Tequila Sunrise" and new material such as "Learn to Be Still" may make you wonder why you ever stashed that guitar in the attic. But the band eventually gets off their stools and rocks out on "Hotel California" and other Eagles standards. All in all, it's an enjoyable and mellowing show. --Tom Keogh

I'm not an eagles fan but WOW December 28, 2004 kirkrumble 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Anytime I want to show off my home theater equipment this is what I put on.As far as sound reproduction, there is no equal. The music is spot on,no mistakes, perfection or close to it. The talent level of this band is un-equaled. Any person with medium to high end equipment it is a MUST!!!!!!This is the dvd of choice for the smart salesman
Set the standard for music DVDs.. July 16, 2004 dvdtrkr (San Diego CA) The soundstage setting suits the acoustic sound and harmonies to a tee, as well as some "behind the scenes" footage. A lot of people use this as a "demo" to show off their entertainment system, and the intimate setting-style comes across in your living room loud and clear. Drawbacks: If you've been to an Eagles concert, the dynamic is very different and the shows are far more energetic. The amount of material they do during the shows (post 1994) covers the solo and band era, which covered a lot of territory, and came to about 3 hours. I'm sure that as with Fleetwood Mac, there will be a DVD of the "Farewell I" tour. But the Hell Freezes Over video is about 100 minutes. Hopefully, they can put out a vintage era video collection that has some of the early 70s BBC and Don Kirshner footage as well as the more familiar footage from "Hotel California" and "The Long Run" promos they've shown on TV in the past.
#1 of the 5 must-have concert DVDs, perhaps the best ever July 12, 2004 My Twin (San Jose, CA United States) Note that both the original and DTS versions had DTS, but the DTS edition was DTS-only. Either one sounds great.Better than the original songs on CD, because the direction and the flawless quality of the recording. This is widely considered by those who've seen it to be the standard that all concert films should shoot for. I'm one of those who feel that way. If you really hate the Eagles, you might not like this DVD. Whenever we have people over for a party, everyone asks for this to go into the player. A must-have.
Hell yes! July 2, 2004 This dvd is a must have for any eagles fan out there. It just glides higher and higher and has some great new music as well. Say hell yes to this dvd. You'll thank me in the morning
Great music DVD standard June 22, 2004 B. Viloria (Maryland USA) This Eagles music DVD (dts version) should be the norm and standard for all music DVDs. The production is just first rate. The music and video were done with such ease, professionalism, quality, and technical expertise, that we forget all these virtues as we are magically immersed with the great audio. All fans of music, whether or not they are Eagles fans, should be quite impressed with the quality of these effort. This is definitely a must buy for your next music DVD. My only peeve is the lack of any other bonuses other than the quite lame audio-only "Seven Bridges Road". Regardless, there's a lot of good music, good performances, and just a "peaceful easy feeling" while watching this masterpiece. Buy it and enjoy. If you don't have a DTS-capable sound system, this is a good reason to have one.
