A solid EP December 12, 2008 Matthew (Vancouver, Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Coldplay's follow-up EP to Viva La Vida, Prospekt's March is a decent EP, and some the songs are perhaps better than on Viva La Vida. The first really nice thing about the EP is that is follows the theme set on Viva La Vida very nice, in fact even the look of the packaging and the cd are exactly in theme and match Viva La Vida. As far as the songs go, not all of them are "songs", in the sense that they have the normal ~3 minutes of singing. I think the highlight of this EP, is the first song Life in Technicolor ii. This is essentially from the opening instrumental from Viva La Vida, except now they have added words and changed the instruments a little and turned it into a "real" song. Glass of Water is another fairly upbeat song. Postcards from far away is just an instrumental piano piece, though it is very beautiful. Rainy day is somewhat reminiscent of the songwriting from Rush of Blood to the Head, while Prospekt's March reminds me of Parachutes songwriting. Both are decent songs. Now my Feet won't touch the ground is very much like Kingdom come (the bonus song from X&Y). The remaining two tracks are fairly disappointing, however, I have to admit. Lost+ is just the normal Lost song, but nearly the middle of the song Jay-Z begins rapping over the song. To be honest I though this was rather out of time with the rhythm and melody of the song, and makes the song sound worse. Though some people may like this version better. Also, Lovers in Japan, is the exactly the same version as on the CD, the only difference that qualifies the "Remix" name, is that it is not appending onto Reign of Love, and is its own song. All in all, I would recommend buying this EP if you are a Coldplay fan or if you enjoyed Viva La Vida.
