| Editorial Reviews:
From Amazon.com The Grammy-nominated, twenty-something, pop-classical phenomenon's fourth studio album is an expertly accomplished entry to the holiday marketplace. Noel tackles the familiar sounds of holiday music with a charmingly eclectic array of guest vocalists and a wide range of material. The songs range from the sacred to the secular, while Groban--buoyed in spots by none other than the London Symphony Orchestra--soars in his duets with Brian McKnight, Faith Hill, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. There's even a song with a gospel choir directed by Kirk Franklin. Produced yet again by crossover maestro David Foster, the arrangements never overwhelm the songs. Groban's smooth and supple vocals can be hard to categorize--seeing how his range is somewhere in-between a high baritone and a low tenor--but he always finds and emphasizes the emotional core of these songs. And whether they have origins in pop or classical music seems not to matter. The addition of messages from troops stationed in Iraq on top of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" is undeniably heart-wrenching, while the album's highlight is its most spare song, "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear," which finds Groban alone at his piano, sounding very much like some kind of angel. --Mike McGonigal

"A Treat for the Holidays ... Josh Groban ... Reprise Records (2007)" November 21, 2007 J. Lovins (Missouri-USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Reprise Records brings to the table another holiday treat with "NOEL" --The Holidays are fast upon us and you know what that means what CDs we will want to purchase and stuff in our Christmas stockings this year --- With so many available, it is hard to decide but let us spend the holidays with our favorite vocalist of the season Josh Groban --- Veering between pop and lush classical arrangements, this album delivers a delightful variety of delights with some Yuletide favorites --- With great musician accompaniment and rich vocal duets, this is sure to become a holiday favorite. Joshua Winslow Groban (born February 27, 1981) is a Grammy-nominated American singer/songwriter known for his mature and lyrical baritone voice. He has concentrated his career so far mostly in concert singing and recordings, although he has stated that he wishes to pursue musical theatre in the future --- Some of Groban's musical influences have been Radiohead, Paul Simon, Sting, Peter Gabriel, and Bjoerk --- He says he is able to look up to anyone, musically, who has pushed the boundaries and stepped outside of the box. As for vocal influences, "anyone who told a story with their songs," including Mandy Patinkin, Klaus Nomi, George Hearn, and Luciano Pavarotti -- Josh currently resides in Los Angeles, California --- (From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) The people here at Amazon and Reprise have requested a review on one of my picks for the season --- so here goes, check out the track listings below and note they are all prearranged for your enjoyment --- a baker's dozen of holiday favorites and original Christmas songs, the Josh Groban Christmas is a mostly festive, entertaining sing along collection tailor made for all the relatives. Sing Christmas (Track Listings): 1. Silent Night 2. Little Drummer Boy - (with Andy Mickee) 3. I'll be home for Christmas 4. Ava Maria 5. Angels We Have Heard On High 6. Thankful 7. Beautiful! November 4, 2007 Julie A. Lane (Hamilton, ON) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is the quintessential Christmas album! The song choices are perfect, a balance of sacred and secular, the guest performers are incredible, the musicianship unparalleled. And then, of course, there is the small matter of THE VOICE! Josh's voice is a perfect blend of smooth and stirring, strong and tender, powerful yet caressing. If you only buy one Christmas album this year.....make it this one!
