Just funny September 8, 2007 M. Karwe 6 aus 7 fanden die folgende Rezension hilfreich
Just one thing is to say: This book is pure entertainment. Nowhere else you can find this amount of "Vorurteile" (the author would say it like this) or such perfect superficiality. Some points are true, and those are really funny. So If you want to laugh a lot buy it and read it. (Sorry for spelling errors)
Great book but too short! April 16, 2007 Helen Hancox (Essex, England) 26 aus 26 fanden die folgende Rezension hilfreich
If only this book were longer. When it arrived I was rather taken aback - just 60 pages? Surely not! What can I learn about the Germans in 60 pages? Quite a lot, as it turns out. This book launches straight in with a very amusing look at the Germans, giving a brief discussion of their history and how the German nation came to be and then detailing many of the quirks and habits of this fascinating nation. The authors give a few ideas how the Germans have been so successful, particularly in terms of literature and music (Goethe, Bach, Kant) but also show some of the angst and problems that the German nature can cause for the people. The authors are both German although I wouldn't know that from their writing which is excellent, funny and seems to understand the Brits very well. They are also very able to poke fun at their own country (although they say this isn't something at which Germans are very adept). With such a short book you can only really get a very brief introduction to German people but it's a very amusing overview and certainly made me think a number of times. We tend to think of the Germans as probably the closest to Brits in terms of personality and nature than other Europeans - this book shows that we might well be wrong in that opinion and it might just help us to understand them more when we visit. Oh, and if you want a view of the Brits (and a much larger book) I can heartily recommend Kate Fox's "Watching the English".
Too facetious! Februar 23, 2007 K. Listener 18 aus 23 fanden die folgende Rezension hilfreich
An amusing little book, full of wildly exaggerated statements. Some of them (but not many) contain a tiny grain of truth; others are just silly. Read it for its entertainment value (or, if English is not your mother tongue, for language practice) but don't use it as a source of reliable information! K. Listener
The truth... Juli 11, 2006 kwauzi (Germany) 17 aus 21 fanden die folgende Rezension hilfreich
Being on of those ever-worrying, selfconscious Germans, of course I wanted to know what others think about us, so I bought the book. At first I thought it was kind of expensive for such a skinny booklet, but it's well worth the price. So funny and so true....Of course we are improving: see Worldcup 2006, every now and then we can actually take it easy and enjoy ourselves!! Those people who hate the book are probably the very ones being described here....sorry, but I loved it!
If you're about to spend some time in Germany buy it, read it and enjoy your stay even more now being "forewarned". If you've already been living in Germany for some time, check what you've missed so far.
